For brand owners, law firms and trade mark agents in India

Know the week someone files a mark like yours.

ipwatch reads every Trade Marks Journal, including the logos, and tells you which newly advertised marks look or sound like yours, with the last day to oppose them.

A mark like yours can be advertised any week

Before a trade mark is registered in India, it is advertised so that anyone can object. If nobody is watching for you, the chance to object passes quietly.

How it works

  1. 01

    Add the marks you own

Type a mark and its classes, or describe what you sell and get class suggestions. Upload a logo and we read its words, or import a list from a CSV file. Flag a well-known mark to check every class.

  2. 02

    We read every journal

Each weekly Trade Marks Journal is checked against your marks when it is published, for names that look or sound alike, in the same or related classes. About seven in ten marks are logos, so an AI model reads the words in them too.

  3. 03

    Decide before the deadline

You get an email with the matches, ranked, each with a side-by-side page and the last day to oppose: four months from the journal, with no extension. Dismiss, keep an eye on, or mark to oppose, and we remind you 30 and 7 days before.

What ipwatch does

Who it is for

Brand owners and startups

Watch the marks your business depends on, and search for similar marks before you file a new name or print it on a pack.

Law firms and trade mark agents

Watch many client marks from one account, with your client reference on each mark. Import marks from a CSV file and export matches to Excel or CSV for client reporting.

In-house legal teams

Record a decision on each match and let the reminders keep track of opposition deadlines. Firm and Agency plans add users for a team.

What the data can tell you

ipwatch knows each mark as it was advertised in the Trade Marks Journal. It does not know whether a mark was later registered, opposed, refused or withdrawn, and it cannot see applications not yet advertised. Treat a search as a first screen, not legal advice.

The index holds journals published since 2005 and is being re-read with a corrected reader. The range of journals you can search today is shown on every search result.

It shows each mark as advertised, not its current status: status from the Registry’s e-register is planned, not yet shown.

Questions

What is the Trade Marks Journal?

The weekly publication of the Indian Trade Marks Registry (IP India). It advertises applications that have been accepted, before they are registered, so that anyone who objects can oppose them.

How long do I have to oppose a mark?

Four months from the date of the journal that advertised it, and the period cannot be extended. ipwatch shows the last day on every match, and reminds you 30 and 7 days before for matches you mark to oppose.

Do you read logos?

Yes. An AI model reads the words printed in each logo in the journal, and in any logo you upload, and those words are matched like a word mark. ipwatch compares words, not pictures: a logo with no words in it is not matched by its image.

Which classes do you check?

The classes you give each watched mark, and the classes related to them, such as 9 and 42. A mark flagged as well known is checked in every class.

Is this legal advice?

No. ipwatch is a first screen that tells you what to look at. Before you file, oppose or decide not to, consult a trade mark agent or advocate.

Can my law firm use it for clients?

Yes. Watch client marks from one account with a client reference on each, import marks from a CSV file, and export matches to Excel or CSV for reporting. The Firm and Agency plans let you invite colleagues, up to 5 or 10 users.

Where is my data kept, and what goes to AI providers?

Your marks, searches and decisions are visible only to your account. Logos are sent through OpenRouter to Google’s Gemini models only to read their words; an uploaded logo goes only to providers that keep no copy, and ipwatch does not store it. For class suggestions and the AI view of a match, the description of what you sell and the marks and classes being compared are sent through OpenRouter to TypeSafe’s Jev model; no proprietor or account details are sent. The privacy page has the details.
